We have sailed into Hilo on the big island of Hawaii twice, once on the Golden Princess in March of 2011, and once on the Grand Princess in February of 2019.
In 2011, we rented a car and drove up the eastern coast to the north and then returned to Hilo and drove on up to Mt. Kilauea in Volcanoes National Park.
We also had a chance to drive the Ring of Craters hiway down to the ocean and saw where the lava crossed the hiway.
In 2019, we played tourist and took a Princess land excursion around the Hilo area which included the OK Farms at Rainbow Falls, Kaumana Caves, and Turtle Cove.
